Was watching a Tenere 700 video on youtube the other day where the guy had the "oem" Givi Trekker Outback top case, he mentioned that the top case cylinder is matched to the ignition. Interesting!

At 8:40

The key looks to be typical Yamaha, so I'm immediately wondering if the Yamaha/Givi lock cylinders are available and can be retrofitted to standard Givi Trekker Outback luggage.

Trying to avoid work so I did some googling. Part number is 59C-281C0-00-00, about $30US each

I assume there aren't any other changes to the Givi cases to prevent installation. Too pricy for me either way.

Any idea how to get this? I looked on Givi's website and it's not available, I have a full dolomiti set I would love to switch to a yamaha key.

The part number I listed above, 59C-281C0-00-00, is a Yamaha part number. Should be able to order it from any OEM Yamaha parts source.

No idea if it will work.

You would have to take the cylinder to a locksmith for them to recode it to match your key. Probably cost you somewhere between $20-50/cylinder depending on the locksmith.

Probably some guides on youtube on how to do it yourself.

Edit: Looks like it comes with the tumblers and instructions so you could do it yourself

If you google the part number, you can see that the bag includes tumblers, springs, and instructions

I decided to bite the bullet and ordered 3 of the locks. At first I didn't think this was going to work because I was expecting a straight exchange with the locks but the lock barrel in the GIVI case and the Yamaha barrel are totally different. But then I was thinking about it and I don't need the Yamaha barrel, all I was after was the lock tumblers. Getting the right tumbler combination wasn't bad. I did find that my measurements were between tumblers so it was a little trial and error. Once I was able to get the tumbler combination correct in the Yamaha barrel, I just needed to transfer that combination to the GIVI barrel. The issue that I ran into was the Yamaha lock used 5 tumblers and the GIVI lock used 9 tumblers. At first I put the five tumblers at the end of the barrel. This did work but the key had a really sloppy fit. I then took the smallest tumbler included with the kit and started the barrel with it and then put the correct 5 tumblers after that. The smallest tumbler would act as a stop for the key so it wouldn't go all the way in. It works perfectly. Now my ignition key opens my GIVI cases.

If you still have the 3 locks that come with the bike for the Yamaha luggage, then you will only need to purchase one lock to do this. The one lock is needed because you will still need the #1 tumbler to prevent the key from going all the way into the GIVI lock barrel.

I can make a video of all of this if there is an interest.

Thank you for the useful information.
I'm having trouble with this problem.
It makes me even happier if you show me the video.
I'm glad if you show it in the picture.
I'm looking forward to it.

I tried this with my top case and it worked perfectly but at the end I realized that any other key could open the top case :-( Is there a way to avoid this?

Best,

Carlos

Why do you think any other key would open the case? If you have changed the tumbler wafers to work with your key, then only keys that are cut like your would work

I tried to open it with another key (from a bicycle lock) and it worked, I even tried with a nail file and it also worked.

Can you please show us how you did it? I must have done something wrong.

Cheers,

Carlos
