Just burred my clutch reservoir screws using a JIS (Japanese Industrial Standard) screw driver, damn! I bought the JIS mainly for that job (bleeding clutch & brakes). I'll easy out and replace, anyone else have issues with these?

Just had my resivoir caps off last night for a brake fluid flush myself. Yes, the small dot beside the screw head let’s you know it JIS. I’ve struggled with them on older bikes mostly because when your changing /adding fluid invariably a small amount runs down into the screw holes, and with brake fluid absorbing water it causes corrosion making removal a bitch next time. Making sure the holes are clean and the new screws get a small amount of anti seize grease makes the next removal easy.
It’s also nasty on your painted surfaces.

Wow - thanks, never knew about the dot and the fluid gunking things up, great pic. BTW, speed bleeders are the best! I use them on all my bikes.....big time saver. Thanks again!

Sadly, some screwdrivers sold as JIS are really just phillips. Can't trust anyone these days. What brand is your screwdriver?

I use Hozan brand myself. Function is every bit as good as the Vessels at 1/3rd the cost. The handles are not quite as nice, nor the machining at the tip, but they do the job.

I use JIS and yes they are slightly better than Phillips but the main issue comes from folks waaaay over tightening those tiny screws, if they have not been over tightened they usually are easy enough to remove. It doesn’t take much to hold those covers in place.

That should be the real deal. Bummer about it camming out and damaging the screws. I have resorted to an impact driver on occasion for screws that were just freaking tight.

And a bit more info. regarding the vessel brand. They offer the mega Dora impacta model along with their standard JIS model. #2 & #3 in the impacta series can be used as an impact driver for loosening by hitting on the metal handle end with a hammer for those tight ones. Has the LH impact release feature built in. Haven’t needed it much in removing #2 screws but I have used the #3 a fair bit for freeing up the stubborn ones.
I’ve also used the Hozan brand at a friends repair shop and they seem to work just as well as the vessel.

And these ones don’t seem to be to clear in the listed description they are JIS but under answered questions it’s stated they are.

Winter 2019, screwdriver threads replace oil threads. :)

Confused? Is what I bought JIS bits? Thank You in advance!

Edit: 3 of the bit heads are JIS sizes 1, 2, 3 . 2 of the bit ends are pozidrive and 1 end is standard/flat
I'm not sure if Vessel makes standard screwdrivers or not. I would think they would. Usually when they are JIS it will say so in the ad. I coudn't find anything in this amazon ad that said JIS. Regular Phillis screwdrivers come in sizes 1, 2 & 3 also. Maybe the (+) sign means JIS, I don't know.

on the Q & A section further down the page, It mentions about what sizes they are.

Here's a good article about this topic...and after reading this, I don't feel so ignorant. I've never had a problem with stripping screws myself, but I'm careful and hoping these new JIS bits I bought will make my maintenance more easy...
