Being new to North Carolina I'm not sure what the weather is like in late Jan / early Feb.
Is anyone up to meeting up near Uwharrie National Forest and check out some of the trails? My riding in Colorado was typically riding pavement from the Denver area to the 4WD trails an hour or more west of Denver out past Bailey or around the Central City area. It looks to me like Uwharrie is about an hour and 1/2 from my place, that's about what I did for a Saturday ride in the Denver area.
I'm going to get a new set of tires by the time March rolls around and will be ready to hit the trails by then.
So, anyone up to meeting at one of the towns near the National Forest and head in to get the lay of the land sometime in late Jan/early Feb?

LD, the trail system is closed until April. There are maybe 10 miles of gravel around the east side of Badin Lake but not much to look at and a couple dead end. You have to ride the Mortimer/Linville Gorge area if you want the good stuff!

If you really want to ride Uwharrie??? get a solid skid plate and real knobbies! It’s very rocky and slick when wet.

Thanks for the info! It looks like Linville Gorge is a weekend trip for me. I have a skid plate and tires for trails. I don't like to venture too far off the beaten track solo. I can pick up a dumped S10 without issue (done it more than I care to admit) but getting too far out there solo is begging to have Mr. Murphy wreak my day.

I may just make the trek to Uwharrie just to check out what I can. Besides I need to get a few more miles on my trail tires on pavement before getting a new set for the year.
