Yamaha dealer with best service department

Tenere ready for the dreaded valve check/adjust. Looking for trustworthy mechanic between Asheville and Statesville, NC. I figure a dealer would be best because of all of the work necessary just to access the engine. I’d rather my Tenere not be the first one he has ever disassembled. So anything good to say about MR Motorcycles or Great Western or other??

I know that Robbie at Fun Cycles exit 112 off I-40 is an excellent mechanic and a great guy. He has done a valve check on both my 2012 and 2014ES Tenere. Fun Cycles is not a Yamaha dealer however. If that makes a difference to you.

I'm planning on having them do my bike this year during the event. They have a lot of experience doing Teneres. Great people, great service department.

Great idea

I went to an event at Romney a couple of years ago and got good vibes from them. This sounds encouraging. A couple of other possibilities come to mind. My Tenere has 29k miles on it so I might could trailer it and my FJ-09 the 6 hours up to Romney and ride around while the Tenere gets valve check, plugs and maybe throttle synch. Or I could take the Tenere only, drop the trailer and drive up to visit my sister in Greensburg, PA while they do the work. Thank you, I like having options.

There will be a Suzuki factory demo truck there during the Romney event. If you don't bring a second bike you will still have many options of bikes to ride on a demo.

I was out at Romney yesterday and told the shop I wanted them to do my valve check on the Friday of the Camp N Ride. I mentioned you might also be interested. If you do decide to join us for the event and to have Romney do the check, give them a call ahead of time. They will need to order a gasket for you. Call the Service department and talk to TJ. Good guy.

For the record, I had the same fears about not wanting to let a Tenere virgin do my valves. This led me to doing it myself. It wasn't as bad as I expected. There are some great tutorials on this site and the cylinder cover isn't as big of a PITA as I had feared. I did my CBR600RR and it took both me and my wife swearing, sweating, and becoming exceptionally creative in our positions to wrangle the cover back on that bike.

That being said, I bought my FZ-09 at Romney and wouldn't hesitate to take a bike there for service. It's a great place.
