Welcome back, I did the same thing, thinking I needed more power I traded a 2015 ES in on a 2017 XCA Triumph Explorer.

Took me 8 months to sell that and get back on a Super Ten.

They are like a good mate, faithful and reliable.

Congrats! Been there, done that. Sold a Gen I to get an Africa Twin DCT, turned out to be the biggest lemon bike I've ever gotten. Sold it back to the dealer and two days later snagged a Gen II S10. Couldn't be happier.

I’ve ridden some and prefer the S10. But why lemon? DTC, engine or other?
The bike suffered from an intermittent stalling problem that always took place when pulling away from a standstill. The dealer tried to fix it, replacing the ECU, coils, throttle bodies, etc. But the issue continued. The dealer contacted Honda JP for guidance on the next step and Honda called it an "engine characteristic" and said it was normal. In short, they washed their hands of the problem. No lemon laws here so I got stuck with it.

While I owned it, the DCT also broke down, refusing to downshift once the engine got hot. If it won't downshift into first at a standstill, it won't move forward anymore. It also won't start if it's not in neutral. So that means you're stranded. My dealer fixed this but it was still having some issues which would have meant another DCT repair if I had kept the bike. Once in a while it would refuse to shift from 1st to 2nd gear. Restarting the bike would temporarily solve it.

Besides those two main issues, the bike also had to have a fuel pump and switch gear replaced during my two year ownership.

The ST1300 that I had had a similar problem. SOMEtimes it would stall, most of the time it would sputter until "the carbs would clear". (yes I know that it's F.I., but that's how it acted) But it would only do it when first taking off after being started. It would not do it again until I turned it off and re-started it. I had Honda & Yamaha techs look at it. Never got fixed; bike rode fine other than that.

Unfortunately it was completely unpredictable when my AT would stall other than it always happened when pulling away from a stop. Not a good thing to have happen on busy roads.

Very strangeo_O.
When I bought my S10, the Honda was the other one I might have bought (I chose Yamaha because it is "more modern", and have shaft drive).
But I did a really extensive seach about problems with the Africa Twin, but I did not found anything about stalling..I found other stuff, but not this.
Not that I have ANY doubts, about this was what yours was doing...

I don't think a search would have revealed the problems with my ST1300; Honda officially claimed there was nothing wrong with the bike. In their defense, I don't think it was a prevalent issue. My buddy had an identical bike (the VINs were only 5 apart), and he NEVER had an issue.

I am always impressed with the folks who buy more than one Super Tenere or who come back to one. That says a lot about the bike IMO and is one of the reasons I made a leap of faith to get one (without ever seeing or riding one). There are a lot of you out there.
