I know a guy that got aftermarket heaters to work with the factory menu and controls. It was a matter of applying the correct amount of resistance to the factory plugs. I'll have to try and find some of the attempts on here to see what others have tried. If I can get them to be a plug-n-play...

Does anyone have a picture of the factory heated grips prior to install? I'm working on putting aftermarket grips on, but integrating them into the factory harness. I'd like a pic of the plug end of the factory setup if anyone has one. -Neal

I feel your pain. I got a slightly used top box with my bike and it had a janky key with it. Dealer threw in a few extra lock cylinders so I set about changing it so the ignition key would work on the top box. I spent a lot of time monkeying around with that silly mechanism. Fuuuuudge it sucked...
