Yamaha Super Tenere Forum helps save a S10 from the scrap HEAP

Congrats are in order. Great save! Am curious about the carbon build up on the pistons. How thick was it? Did it scrape off without too much trouble? I've been using that overpriced fuel additive Yamaha sells. I think it's called Ring Free. Wonder if the cost of that stuff is worth it?

    Cam chain gap on sprocket

Zip ties are cheap so I zip tied my chain to both upper and the lower sprockets in four places, just to be sure the chain didn't jump teeth when I unloaded the CCT. I had to cut a scrap walnut stick to use as a lever by wedging it up/where the CCT guide rests against the chain tensioner...

    Cam chain gap on sprocket

Steve68 Your post prompted me to pull out my photo's from the recent CCT switch and valve check I performed this fall on the 2012. My chain and sprocket gap is visually identical to yours. With both bikes having the same gap, I took that to mean both bikes were OK... because my bike has been...

    RED CAT sad news

What you did to your Tenere today??!!

Sweet is what I said out loud when I went for the first ride. Another observation - my bike was getting hard, HARD to push in gear with the clutch lever pulled in(not running). For comparison - I can physically push a 1 ton pallet of paper with a pallet jack with some effort - the bike felt...

What you did to your Tenere today??!!

Hello - The old Yam clutch would grab at take off from a standstill, then I'd have to relax on the throttle a bit to keep moving...given my apparent lack of technique. This made for a awkward feeling take off and not smooth. This new basket and Barnett arrangement has none of that. No...

What you did to your Tenere today??!!

Put my first 80 miles on after installing the new CCT, clutch basket and Barnett plates. Am very pleased with the results. No more clatter at start up. The bike shifts like a dream. No more 3800rpm shudder. Score -score - score. Am ready for another 48,000 miles.

    CCT question

2012 owners - I've just pulled the CCT from my 2012 with 44,000 miles on the clock. I changed my CCT because the writing is on the wall for the 2012's & my bike was making a clearly audible slapping sound upon start up. About 30% of the time, the chain would slap three, sometimes four...

Need routing advice Dodge City, KS to Memphis TN

Isn't the TAT just south of you on the Ks. Ok. border? I know it is. I've only been on the western half of that route. The Tenere might make the eastern half an adventure.?? Anyone ?

Later clutch basket, does it really make a difference?

Hey guys, Am about to follow Motowalt into the CCT & clutch basket replacement camp. I really love this bike and plan to keep it for as many miles as it will take. Right or wrong; at 44,000 miles, am replacing the clutch plates with the Barnett kit. Any advice any one is willing to offer will...

Can we sum up S10 reliability history so far??

Suffered from #5. Only a real showstopper problem once and it was the very first time it happened in 2012. BUT and I do say BUT regarding #1; my bike has a distinct chainsaw rattle upon start up a couple times per year. With my YES warranty on the downhill side, I worry if/when it will...

Gee, I wish I purchased a KTM or BMW!

You guys are silly :-\ I've a 12 Tenere & a 14 KTM 690. Luv both. I spend a tiny bit more cash on the KTM - I'm beginning to worry more about the Tenere. No plans to get rid of either.

    bad starting

Budgie - I share your frustration with the starting issue. Here's the context: I left my 12 Tenere outside all last night and it was 33F degrees at 7:am this morning. I have already changed the oil to 20W50, my summer oil. I also have a weak battery and have a new battery on the way. The bike...

    Hard start has me thinking

I've got a 12 edition and take this for what it's worth - ::025:: I've had the hard start - was in the first go around of this plague. Personally I've kinda redefined the hard start as a longgggggggg start issue.....meaning that I don't let off the damn starter button too soon. Over the...
