I’m booked in tomorrow (of course rain is forecasted) and I’ll be looking for extra grunt low down. I want to be able to dig her out of the hairpins on the mountain roads without playing with the gearbox too much. Top end on this bike is irrelevant(she does over the ton but she don’t sound happy there)

If you want a better top end (and more power elsewhere), swap out the stock header for the arrow header. Huge improvement and works great with Chris's flash.

Yeah I was expecting that to get gains at the top end I would have to trade some grunt but Chris assures me that his flash will produce gains in all areas without compromising any. Looks like this bike has been altered slightly already. The fuel cut has been disabled but there doesn’t appear to have been any mapping done. Chris advises me to leave the fuel cut disabled as it smooths off/on throttle transition. Lambdas have been disabled but left connected to prevent fault codes. Initial fuel air ratio as expected very lean in some areas, especially off idle and low throttle cruising speeds

Nothing earth shattering to look at but the ride home was a revelation. Much smoother throttle response and crisper acceleration from all revs without the chugging feeling that I had before. Tickover is also more stable than before and sounds better. Job done, and I’m very happy with the results.

So other than the Arrow exhaust and headers were there any other mods to the bike before ECU flash? Did you require a power commander for custom map or was it direct?

Full arrow system is all it’s got. I changed plugs, air filter and oil prior to taking the bike in but that’s all. The ecu was flashed direct using raw data.

Thanks. The reason I ask is when I flashed my last bike (FZ1) I removed EXUP with servo eliminator, Yosh full system, O2 eliminator and to play with the fuel maps I had to install a PCV.

The maps were changed directly to the ecu so no PCV required. Ignition maps were also changed directly in the ecu. I’m not sure you can even do that with a PCV?

I’ve been surprised by the number of people on here that don’t like the full amount of engine braking on the S10. It never seemed excessive to me. Now, after having my ecu flashed and the tuner finding that someone had turned off the fuel cut I wonder if I’ve not experienced the full engine braking. I asked the tuner to switch it back on but he strongly advised me not to! The fuel map had not been touched apart from the area 2k to 3k where it was so weak it went off the meter!!

that’s interesting. My appointment is for tomorrow afternoon. LOL
Yeah he was very accommodating and offered to do it tomorrow but my schedules full until next week.
Now that you are getting yours done before me....
”Eager to hear your feedback afterwards. Thanks”;) :D

No problem. Mine is a Gen II, and I’m not going to lower the thermostat temperature setting, or remove the engine braking. I’m also going to have him give me the before and after stats, so I can see what the actual improvements are. It’s de-catted with a free flow exhaust, so I’m curious to see how much more improvement can be had.

Cool! Thanks.
May I ask why not do thermo and engine braking?
Mine is Gen II as well but stock. You will see more gains than me.

I specifically asked him about those two items, as he left his alone. Said the same thing as some of us here on the forum. Yamaha spends a fortune on R and D. If they wanted the thermostat to come on at a lower setting, they would’ve programmed it that way. As for engine braking, we both agreed that it’s a good thing to have. All my bikes other than one, have been a Twin. I really like engine braking and don’t want to lose it. I also asked if he could program to run on regular fuel versus premium, as there’s almost a $5 per tank saving. He was strongly against that for a number of reasons which makes sense. Didn’t realize how much of a benefit using premium is on our bikes.

I have a 2012 super ten with a power commander and stock exhaust. Does anyone know who can do a flash near California? New to this site.

Jett Tuning in Camarillo can do it. Having tried them both, I can say Anthony’s tune is superior, but you’ll have to mail your ECU to him.

Sorry to butt in , but I am going to get an ECU reflash after I decat and go to a more free flowing muffler that I can actually hear. The engine braking is fine as far as I am concerened but I would like the fan to come on sooner, the hotter a catalytic converter can run the better it works. I think yamaha runs the engine that hot purely for emissions reasons, I was always under the impression that 185 was the ideal operating temp for an engine. Please correct me if I am wrong.
