Decided to vacuum form some carbon fiber patterned thermoplastics around my heel guards. Came out pretty nice on the first attempt.
You know, I never would have thought to use my vacuum table and kydex like that, but maybe I'll look into adding some desert sand or olive green to my bike.

how do you do this,

looks great

Looks great! How do you do the vacuum form process and what is the material you used?
He has a vacuum table and is using a thermoplastic to make these materials. You place the item to be formed onto the table, heat up the thermoplastic (kydex usually, sometimes ABS or other plastics), place them on top of the part and then turn on the vacuum. This allows for a molded appearance that you can then layer over the top of the part on the bike, protecting the finish on the part but also imparting customization on your bike.

Basically, as described above. Right now it's trying to get the balance right....material thickness, temperature, how long to heat it for optimal forming without destroying the texture/pattern and how much / how long vacuum to apply once I build fixtures to support the parts. Quite a few ways to screw it up as I've learned doing overlays or just building outright components out of various thermoplastics for other industries.

The first attempt above was good, but there will be several others done with changes in the production recipe to get an optimal result.

Another view regarding rusty plugs and coils.

I noticed last year that a couple of plugs had very slightly rusted, and as my bike is garaged and rarely left outside, I assumed it was due to rain coming up from the front wheel, rather than rain running down from the tank. This was further reinforced by the amount of road debris atop the engine.

I fitted a fender extender over the winter and have just come back from 9 days in France, including some rain and wet road riding. The spray around and above the exhaust manifold is undoubtedly far far less now that I have the extender in place. I’m confident that come plug change time this will make difference.

Changed the oil in the engine and the shaft drive. Both had done about 3600 miles. Engine oil was still pretty clean but the shaft oil was black and horrid. I used Silkolene but was advised by the dealer that they only use Yamaha shaft oil because it contains an additive that stops the oil attacking the oil seals. Sounds like horse shit to me but anyone else heard that?

Matt, is the stuff you use fully synthetic, for the drive shaft?

I used to use a correct spec mineral drive shaft oil and it always came out looking grim, even after a short time in there. Changed to Motul fully synthetic and it comes out almost looking like it was when it went in.

It's also worth looking at fitting a shield in the front of the engine, quite a few on here myself included have done it, an old number plate works a treat.

Aux lights weren’t working. Had to fix a broken connector. And I ordered a YTZ14S as the stock battery is 5 yrs old. It’s starting fine but the cranking is sluggish. I’d rather not find out it’s shot on the road somewhere.

I got caught in a big thunderstorm recently, although I donned my rain gear my soft saddle bags didn't fare very well.
I had to remove everything from the saddlebags and let things dry. Also too, there was about 20 mm or 3/4 in. Or water in one of them. I recently added two hard plastic boxes and these are waterproof, $100. (CDN$) new for both.
I do have Yammys OEM hard boxes...yeeeck. roo clunky and too heavy.
Can anyone point me to some medium sized waterproof saddles that could be mounted on the Super Tenere, with say, bungee cords?? Please see my picture.
Thanks open to ideas ...

Thanks for the picture of the rear rotor.
I very recently had the rear pads changed...on my third set of pads now counting the original pads...usually, the ratio is about six to one six pads to one rotor.
Perhaps it's me. As we have lotsa gravel at intersections and when making a 90 degree turn, definitely a time to exercise diligence or you'll get the surprise of your life.

Does anyone have a solution for soft panniers that are waterproof?
I detest the OEM boxes, too big and ugly.
I tried some Nelson Riggs body bags...don't like, so sent them back.
