There are two kinds of riders, those that have dropped their bikes, and those that will. I know every bike I owned took a nap or two (the worst was when I would forget to remove the disc lock from the front brake!).

My best one on the ST was when I was riding Ophir Pass during the first big rally. I was staying as far away from the sheer drop as I could, and didn't have enough momentum to clear a large rock in my path; stopped me dead in my tracks and over I went. One medium sized rock got stuck in my Givi bars, so I popped it out, and continued on down the trail.IMG_0971.jpeg

One other thing, I was among the first to drop my bike on the left side and discover how vulnerable the radiator fan is. My drop was before I had gotten my crash bars, but once I put them on, I had no further issues.

Hi BaldKNob, are those just bent cells or the radiator is actually perforated and leaking water?
The radiator isn’t bent but 4-5 rails in the core were worn thru by the fan. It took a couple months and, of course, happened to spew when I was 150mi from home.

What's wrong with taking a nap at a campsite? Seems natural to me. :D (I'm guessing the kickstand sunk?)
You would be correct sir!

That does not look like a good time. Looks like pretty slick tires as well, so zero chance in that clay!
The tires were actually a pretty good set of 705’s. I had just replaced the rear before starting my trip back. They do pretty well in everything but mud. To be fair, I don’t think any tire would’ve helped much in that slop.

Its an easy bike to drop.
I drop mine a few times. Just little sratches on the Crash bars (touratech is stainless steel so not paint damage) and handguards.
I begin to see my bike as a tool to have fun! And when you start using your tool right you don’t care about scratch and ding so much!

Since the OP is a relative noob who was wondering how tough the bike is, apologies to all of the long-timers who've heard/seen this before.

Note that the mud puddle splashes are coming toward the camera? And the trailer traveled farther than the bike? The trailer caught a wheel in the puddle as I was going faster than I should have, then sprung free and into the air. I kinda knew a bad ending was coming when out of the corner of my eye I spotted the trailer passing me, and sure enough, suddenly I was whipped around backward. The bike went down on the right, the trailer with no brakes pulled the bike back up and over to then slam it down on the left side too for good measure.

Damage? A bent license plate.

Just one time the big girl has taken care of me.

I only wish I had such luck dropping my bike. 2 tip overs and over 300.00 in damage. And hours of cutting, welding, and grinding to repair. I'm hoping going back to the OEM pegs will make the repairs easier and cheaper in the future.
