Can anyone help ?

I am curious to know how the damping varies front to rear on the ES for the different settings we have. I have the graph of the Damping Adjustment Range for all the different preload settings but it does not show the individual settings for front comp, front rebound and rear rebound, just the overall damping.

Has anyone any info ?

Cheers

I don't know of any literature, I just experimented with settings. 'Cuz your settings will vary greatly with road surface(s), and how much weight the bike is carrying. Not to mention YOUR personal preference(s); I have mine, and everybody else has theirs. And, yes, the settings DEFINATELY make a difference. Have fun riding to get YOUR favorite settings.

Bart, That would be interesting for sure! All I know is Yamaha did it right. I like the fact there is no guesswork in the adjustments. And my gosh, 81 different adjustments!!!

My settings:
Soft valving and soft preload for stable highway travel

Hard valving and hard preload for twisties

Soft valving and hard preload for off road

Standard valving and med/soft-med/hard preload for everyday riding

The spring is soft but it flat out works!! I have a raised set of dog bones on order so we will see how they effect the ride. The only issue I have is it bottoms out too easy and it stands up to the point of tipping when preload is soft and the kickstand is down.

I use pretty the same than Chris: soft at highways, standard at secondary roads and hard at off-road. And like you others, I like it so much it's so easy to change settings !

I'm pretty good with suspension, but this is my first ES model of any sort.

Preload is easy, but here's where I get lost.... the +/- parts for the damping. Is Hard +3 harder than Hard 0, and if so, does that mean Soft +3 is softer than Soft 0, or is it harder? Does the + mean 'more of that particular mode you're changing' or is it more literal, as in 'no matter which one you're on, + is more and - is less versions of that particular mode?'

less hard -3 -2 -1 Hard 1 2 3 more hard
(softer?)..................................(harder?)

less soft -3 -2 -1 Soft 1 2 3 more soft
(harder? or even softer?) (softer? or harder?)

Does that make sense? :) Or am I just not thinking about it correctly?

Think of it this way: Soft -3 is the softest valving and hard + 3 is the hardest valving.

From softest to hardest damping: Soft -3 -2 -1 0 +1 +2 +3 Standard -3 -2 -1 0 +1 +2 +3 Hard -3 -2 -1 0 +1 +2 +3. It's a mind blower how many settings this bike has. The best way to get a feel for the suspension is ride one of your normal loops and try different settings
