Hello there guys!

Its time for a new decent helmet. I always went for mid-quality helmets, I mean, "secure" but not the best helmet. Like LS2.

But now I'm old, and tired about the wind noice inside the helmet. So, I want opinions on good helmets that are "silence" on wind.

Any thoughts? recommendations? Thanks for reading!

Not a Schuberth E1 the peak rattles, it's heavy, it whistles with the visor cracked and it's way overrated and in my opinion overpriced having ridden with it for more than a year. Ohh and it's hot in the summer that big chin vent doesn't do jack. Whenever Klim gets more Krios Pro in I'm getting one of those.

I have an Arai Corsair. I like it. My SENA speakers fit in it perfectly; which eliminates the wind noise. Wind noise is going to be affected by the helmet AND the windshield. Where the wind hits the helmet, and what it hits on the helmet. I just turn up the volume. (yes, I do get hearing checks, and no, I don't have any hearing loss)

Confirmed helmet snob and Arai user. Currently, I have the XD4 and a RXQ. The Q is quieter and fits my round head better but the XD has better air flow, peripheral vision and ADV aesthetics. I love it and will replace with another next season despite the steep buy in.

Aria is the other contender for your dollar. I am told they fit people with a round head. Mine must be elongated because Shoie fits me perfect.
Try the Arai Signet series as they’re designed for a long-oval shaped noggin.

I've always heard the Arai vs Shoei thing too. Not too sure about it. I've had each over the years. They each fit very well, and were comfortable. I think it may come down to WHICH Arai, and WHICH Shoei. Neither brand is cheap, but I've never seen either brand with poor fit & finish. I wouldn't consider myself a helmet snob, but I am willing to pay for quality & comfort. I got a good deal on mine from my dealer. It's very comfortable & quiet....depending on whether I have the windshield up or down. One of my kids had an HJC modular, which he liked....until he tried on a Arai Signet Q. By the way, the Signet fit his narrow head perfectly. The other kid....he wears ICON....because they look cool; but I have to admit the ICON will take an ass whoopin. He crashed, and broke ribs, wrist, and tore ligaments. Helmet barely had a scratch, and the doctors said he MIGHT have had a concussion. But, he is my kid, so landing on his head probably isn't going to do much. o_O

Aria is one I’ve been wearing for a long time, mainly for the fit. I noticed when vents became popular the noise increased.
I’ve also been wearing earplugs for a long time. Custom plugs are worth the money.

I bought a Neoteck 2, partly for the slick add on sound system. Feels okay on my head, but I think it impedes my peripheral vision, and when I turn my head, it bangs into my shoulder. So far, pretty disappointed, it is mostly just sitting, though I have not quite given up for good. It is a good bit quieter then my HJC anyway. And as noted above- I am looking at a bigger windshield, the air stream is part of the problem, I think.

Old man Arai was a hat maker and that is why Arai makes round and oval shape helmets. He understood. Most Shoei helmets are round, but the Multitech was mid oval. The first Neotech was more round, the second is supposed to be more mid oval again, (I think). I haven't tried one yet Maybe it's the other way around? Mid oval first, then more round.

LS2 makes round and oval shape helmets too. I've had a few LS2s now, but yes, the premium helmets are nicer. I'm also due and have been putting it off because I don't want to spend $600+. I've had Arai in the past, but prefer modular helmets now and Arai won't make those.

Look at a Schuberth C3 Pro if you have an oval head. If you have a round head, check out the C4 helmets. Both are modular. If you're looking for full face, or ADV, no help here. FYI I have heard that C4 Pro may not be the same round as the C4.

If you don't need a drop down visor, check out the Klim helmets. Transitions visors. I want the drop down for extra eye protection when I have the chin bar flipped up. I don't ride that way for extended periods, but do enough when drinking water or eating on the fly that it;s a thing for me.

Bottom line, try a few. Try to wear them in the shop for 20 minutes or so, or around the house before going on a ride since mail order won't take it back if you used it. Know thy head shape.

I have been using Arai XD’s since they first became available and they work great for me. I have actually worn out a few XD’s so over the years I have bought about 5 of them and that adds up to a lot of money ! The extra big window and the sun visor are both extremely important to me.

Just for grins, take a look at Motorcyclegear.com (the new name for NewEnough). They have in their helmet section a thing called "Lid Picker". $20ish. I ordered the kit, did the measurements, and sent the measurements to them. they in turn sent me a PDF file with their helmet recommendations based on my measurements for EVERY helmet they sell. In the end, I bought a Shoei Neoteck II. really liking that helmet.

As mentioned earlier, I own and use an HJC.

My other helmet is an X-Lite 802 full face. It’s right up there with Arai and Shoei (I’m a previous long time Arai user). I think the 802 is now the 803, give them a look, it’s a quality product. They also do a flip up lid, which is likely to replace my HJC flip up.

I should add, the Arai and X-Lite are on par for quietness, the HJC much noisier. I always wear earplugs, but still better in the X- Lite.

I have been running Shoie the last few years and like them really well. I have also used a lot of HJC's i like real well. One HJC i really liked as much as any i have owned. I find now all the helmet manufacturers are filling the helmets with plastic gizmos and scoops and things that just look like they will cause drag or noise. I look for a simple helmet that has some air vents but that is about it. I want it to fit and be quiet. Right now for me Shoie still makes one like i enjoy using.

Arai, Shoei, and Nolan have all found their way into my inventory at some point. he only modular I ever had was the Nolan, and while it had a sun shield, it was on the outside of the main shield. My last go to helmet was the Shoei GT Air, with the internal sunshield. Light, good ventilation, and not too noisy on the ST. Now that I'm wearing glasses pretty much full time, I'm not sure which way I would go...

I have a long oval shape head, and have been using an older Scorpion modular helmet. I am on the hunt for a new one also, but wanting a modular helmet, it rules out one of the best for me, Arai. The newer Scorpions I have looked at, are more rounder on the bottom, letting in more air around the ears for the oval guys. Next helmet for me to look at will be the LS2, and the Shuberth, but I need to actually try them on. Traveling next week, so we will see.

Have been reading in the press here in England about all the fake helmets on line. They tested one and it split im half.
