New to the site. Has anyone had the instrument cluster break off of their Super Tenere 2013 before? I ordered the part but dont want it to break again. I would like to beef it up or make it so it doesnt happen again?
Hi Kjole, I have a 2013 and haven’t experienced this issue. Also been on here a few years now and don’t recall seeing anyone raise the same problem.

This has happened before, the piece can be replaced. Make sure everything is nice and tight, but also make sure you don't have too much 'hanging' off the cowl, a bigger screen will add to the stress, if that is what you have then add stabiliser rods to take up some of the extra stress that the bigger screen contributes.

Just fitted madstad adaptor with Puig 7600h screen. Lowest height and angled back as far as will go and very effective. Still air at 70. 6’3” and 34” inside leg. Delighted

They break, they’re like $80 and a quiet afternoon to change.

Took the rear wheel out as the tyre will be changed tomorrow. Checked the spokes and a few were a tad loose, not about to fall out, but loose nonetheless.

Note, I only ride on tarmac.

Usually tip over damage, the weight of everything leverages on that strut.

I have to know how you managed to do that
Well, how I broke this part to me is also a mystery? My only guess because its never been crashed was I have a V-Steam tall windshield and I am 6 ft tall and take the S10 through some pretty rough trails. Not sure if anyone knows Grey Creek Pass from Cranbrook, BC to Greycreek but its pretty rough. The strain on it must have cracked and weakened it over time? I have only 36k km in the last 3 seasons.

I have the new piece from Yamaha in the garage ready to install but been thinking of beefing it up somehow but not sure if I should use fiberglass or bolt on some metal strips? Dogdaze says to use stabilizer rods? You mean cross braces like where you bolt on your GPS mount? This might help take some stain? Any ideas?

I received a used Leo Vince pipe from davesax36 and my ECU back from Anthony (great guys) who flashed it for me. I'm very happy with the results! I also tried one of the few local trails that was open but the snow is still a little too deep in spots. Loving the Tenere though.

There was a gent making braces that went from the adjusting knobs on the screen adjuster to the wind wing mounting holes for the '14+ bikes. Looked factory. The same idea can be used on the pre-'14 bikes if you're handy.

Madstad sells the braces too. With a heavy Madstad windshield. I'm suprised more of them haven't cracked.

I use the same windshield as you and I have the braces on my bike. The improvement is unreal, they steady the mount like you wouldn't believe. I bought a set off of the guy selling them on this forum. Low price and very good quality.

How does the rear hugger work for you? Have you run into mud/ rock issues?
All good so far. Haven't played in a lot of mud. You can't see in the picture but, the trailing edge of the hugger is reasonably ragged from gravel riding and stones firing out the back. Still keeping stuff off the shock though.

Haven't lifted the tank since the hi-idle/no-idle recall months ago, so a thorough check-out under there was in order. Everything's tight, all good, dealer did a nice job routing harnesses. New set of K60s spooned on. Oil, filter and final drive change coming up soon.

All in preparation for leaving for AK in three weeks!

Have a good trip and let us know how the trip works out for you.

A few weeks ago I installed a lowering link and raised the forks to lower the bike approximately a little less than an inch. Afterwards, I noticed the bike didn't lean as far on the sidestand. However, the other day while examining the sidestand I noticed the foot or pad didn't touch flat on the ground. See pictures below.

In the picture above you'll notice that the contact is mostly in the heal of the stand. Consequently, I decided to get out a grinder and remove some material to change the angle of the foot so the foot would be more parallel with the ground.

I didn't want to remove too much material but definitely believe bike leans a bit more like it did before. Thought I share...

New oil & filter, gear lube, both oils being full synthetic. New Air filter with almost 20k on it. 1/2 of which was a trip to alaska. About time right? A new set of Mitas Dakar E-07's (+for the rear) will be going on in the next month or so. The current rear has 16k miles, the front is at 13k miles with lots of tread left. I'm hoping the new + rear does as well as the one I'm about to take off.

I like your idea ! My bike hasn’t been lowered but it still seems like the side stand should be slightly shorter a lot of the time. I’m going to try doing pretty much the same thing you did.
