Hey, didn't see many posts for Gen 2 reviews of Anthony's reflash so I thought I would post my experience.

Background - coming off a 2008 FJR with 55K miles, wanted something more comfortable and get TC and cruise control, so found a 2014 ES with 4K miles and fully farkled (also have a 2005 SV 650).

The one shortcoming of the ST for me is the engine, but you can't compare it to a FJR, apples & oranges but wanted more out of the engine. I sent the ECU to Anthony, here is my experience.

Anthony - great to deal with, answered my questions quickly and turned around my ECU in one day = stellar!

Reflash review - not sure what I expected but it is exceeded my expectations. Much more "tractable" power, more linear and more torque in every gear. I felt 2nd and 3rd gear (in sport) were kind of short and useless, much better now. I didn't even ride in "T" it seemed weak but now very usable and "S" just has balls now!

Less engine braking, smoother, easier to ride, more power, more fun! It may be my imagination but the engine sound better, less "clanky". Now I don't miss my FJR at all!

For the price it can't be beat, highly recommended! Ride safe - Edbo.

I also had very good interactions with Anthony. Good communication and fast turn around. I only rode my new to me 2015 with 5000 miles for about 400 miles before the reflash. I was not crazy about the fueling and hated the engine braking. The interesting thing for me is that when I met friends for a ride that ask me if I had installed a new exhaust because it sounded so much better. They have heard my old 2013 and the 2015 before the reflash.

Thanks so much for the review. I have a 2015 ES that I have been thinking about doing the reflash to. Did it get rid of the snappy throttle in s mode? I can ride mine but really have to concentrate on what I'm doing. Are you running stock exhaust? I just recently added a Yoshimura slip-on and I think it has helped out some. Or maybe I just like the the new sound. I know the S10 won't replace my fz1. But I do think that are bikes have more potential than what the factory gave them.

I own a 2015 non ES and I have been thinking of sending the ECU out for the reflash. I only ride in S mode but when I am doing slow speed or off road this is where it needs improvement. Now that the cold has set in I think I may send the ECU out. I have been out ridding every week up until now. So now how do I get the ECU out? I will search this web site for directions. It is good to hear the reflash helps the gen 2 bikes also.

Yes, it smooths out the snappy throttle, I have the same slip on and still makes a noticeable difference. The "T" mode is much more usable but the "S" mode has more "guts". If you plan on keeping the bike for any length of time I would do the reflash, no question in my mind. Good luck!

You should be able to find direction to get the ECU out on one of the posts with pictures. The hard part for me was pulling all the wiring down and getting my big hands in to disconnect the two wire harness. Anthony will send detailed mailing instruction, just email him. Good luck!

Exactly! I had my 2014ES done by Anthony and absolutely his work is the best money I spent on the entire bike. Had 80,800 on my 2012 and now 68,xxx on my 2014ES and absolutely love it!!

Not trying to be a wise guy...and not bashing re-flashes...in fact...thinking of getting it done myself...
...but here's my question for any who had a re-flashed Tenere off-road in hilly areas or simply may have some insight:

The ST's ABS cannot be turned off...at least easily...
The "stock" ST has very strong engine breaking...
The re-flash cuts back on the engine breaking as I understand it...some have said substantially...
?? If a re-flash is done, does this make the off-road downhill breaking worse than stock?...i.e....if the ABS is an issue breaking downhill...and we reduce the engine breaking further with the re-flash...maybe Yamaha engineers made a trade-off decision on ABS (non-switchable) vs Engine Breaking.

I don't know the answer to this question...I can see the benefit of reduced engine breaking to smooth out throttle behavior on the road...but unless one can turn off ABS...it may introduce a problem when going downhill off-road.

Powhatan Lenny, I may be wrong, but a re-flash shouldn’t be a “one size fits all” solution and I would think that anyone offering this service should be able to alter individual parameters, (within reason), to give you the riding experience that you need for the type of riding you intend to do.

The reflash Anthony did for me he called TMode Light and SMode enhanced.
T mode still has significant engine braking while S mode is greatly reduced.
So you have 2 completely different riding modes for a wider range of riding conditions.
With the reflashed ECU I find myself changing the modes a lot more frequently than I did with the factory flash.

I can't comment as I'm not a dirt guy.....Edbo

That is really good information to know...Thank you KYwoodsrider! I would think its probably best to go with the TMode Light and SMode enhanced and switch as you indicate. I'll try that...see how it works...then make adjustments if necessary. Cheers!

Have a conversation with Anthony, he's very response and accommodating. As I understand, he can dial any level of engine braking that you desire.

With that said:

1) I'll second KY's comments, I had the same flash done and fell in love with the bike all over again.

2) While your in there pulling the ECU to send off to Anthony, follow the tutorial here to implement a simple solution to disabling the ABS using either the method in post #1 or post #2 https://www.yamahasupertenere.com/index.php?threads/how-to-quick-and-easy-abs-disable-switch.22577/

I had Anthony do my re-Flash. Just got it back this morning, popped the ECU in and took the bike for a short test ride on the pavement. This re-Flash is well worth the $$ and effort. It improved all aspects of drive-ability, improved power noticeably, she pulls strong in all gears.

I've got ~ 43K on my ST, been cross country a couple of times and north of the Arctic Circle twice. After crash protection, this re-Flash is the next best investment without a doubt .

I haven't had the re-Flash off pavement yet, but will later this week. I was concerned about losing too much engine breaking, but this is not the case. In "T" Mode, the engine breaking is slightly less, but still strong for off pavement; in "S" Mode engine breaking is substantially attenuated, but still present; this, in turn, makes entering and driving through turns much smoother and quicker.

As for Anthony:

1. He communicates promptly.
2. His turn-around is quick.
3. He delivered what he promised.

Cheers to all and thanks to those above who provided me info!

Can you please provide Anthony's info? I'd like to remap my ECU as well.
