Did you notice the Yamaha spy sneaking around in the bushes at about the 4:39 mark?

That was a weird video. Why would you do an intro "that important" in somebody's back yard? Very odd to me.

The configurator is up & running at BMW Motorrad now. Eye watering once they are specced up but hey, it's only money.

I guess they felt the need to compete with the KTM 1290 series. That intro by the pool was pathetic.

Kinda neat technology, but I worry about reliability/durability issues more coming from BMW than from a Japanese manufacturer. With respect to the video - Geeze, I've seen presentations on the bioburden counts on medical devices that were more stimulating!

On the plus side, r1200gs prices are gonna plummet since now ALL the bmw guys have to upgrade to the 1250 or else... what would their neighbors think?

Really though, KTM can barely sell the 1290 because they're just too damn big. Meanwhile people are STOKED for the Tenere 700. What is BMW thinking?

I remember thinking that when the water boxer came out. I'd swoop in and grab a few-years-old air-cooled bike for a song!!

Still waiting for the value to erode.

I wouldn't bother. I rode one for a bit and that's what drove me to the Super Tenere. Lots of great things about the bike but too overrated and overpriced in general. The valve jobs are easy but every other bit of maintenance is a nightmare compared to the ST for example. Like this, what a disaster it is just to change the final drive fluid.

If you're set on one, my choice would be a 2013 90th anniversary GSA. It was kind of a split year and these ones were still air cooled. (stay away from the early water cooled and be mindful that all the recall work was taken care of too.

I clicked the link and saw a dozen tools on the ground on top of oil...

Screw that. I'll stick to my Tenere, even more after replacing that dumb hex fill plug by an actual bolt(oil drain boil from another yamaha I had). 17mm drain and fill, new copper washer, done.

Yeah, let's talk about Super Ten maintenance ease:

BMW, don't you have some current models to debug first?
BMW tend to use the customer as their very own crash test dummies and development engineers.

You don’t hear too much about it because BMW have a very comprehensive warranty package that ties the customer into the dealers. The dealers will not disclose any issues and the customer gets a loan bike and feels he/she is getting great personal service while the factory gets feedback on faults and potential faults.
