Gearing up for a trip.

Going on a week long trip (first for me) to Knoxville, TN. We will be riding the Dragons Tail and whatever else is out in the area. Should be a good time, pretty excited about it. Bummed that the Givi Trekker 52l top case didn't make it to the states in time though. I had one on order for a month now and its a no go. I ended up tracking down the Trekker 46l case instead and should have that in a few days. Also ordered up the large Tech Spec pads for a little extra grip when in the twisties.

We leave on Friday, I cant wait.

Keep your eyes open on the Dragon. There are riders that like to use both lanes. I'm not sure if they still allow 18 wheelers, but they will take both lanes also .

I'm off about the 27th of August, my own self, to cruise southern B. C. for a couple weeks.  Hope I don't freeze my toasties off on the way back up north about Sept. 8 or so.   Looking fard to it.   R

I am pretty nervous, I wont lie. The longest bike ride I have done was 5hrs. Before the S10 I had a 06' GSXR and I didn't really want to ride that thing to far. Now that I have a bike I am more comfortable on, I am starting to stretch my legs some and take some trips. I am worried about my bum, hope it can take the long rides. I picked up an Airhawk, hoping that will help some if I decided that I need it. Also, my wife is going to meet me out there. I hope her bum bum can take it as well... LOL 

Gotta figure out where I want to mount my GoPro too. Thinking about putting it on the top most part of the windscreen with the adhesive mounts that they give you.

I just did 2450 kms in 5 days - my longest ride yet.  The longest day was 620 kms, which is about 385 miles.  My riding partner was on a 2011 Concours 14.  The Super was...super, and despite the rain every day, and almost every night, I had a hoot and only one squiggly moment.  I have a sheepskin that I used om my seat, and it definitely made the difference - and makes a great pillow in the tent to boot.

Have a great trip. Just don't "overthink" .  Tire patch kit, cellphone , $2000 , good riding gear and you are ready for a week long ride in US.

Few months back the wife and I got on a 747 and flew to Australia. It was HER idea for me to go there and rent a bike and ride for 2 weeks.

So I know what you THINK is "nervous". But it's something else. Enjoy that part too.

And don't over-plan. Just ride.

watch out with that Givi Trekker case.

the pins that hold the hinges together rattle out. when i got to Baltimore i found that one was completely missing and a couple of others were working their way out as well.

they are nice cases otherwise.

Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate.  Carry water on the bike and drink often.  If you feel you're getting overheated, stop and take a break in some A/C or grab a bag of ice and dump some inside your jacket or fill your pockets if they are empty, then put the rest of the bag in your lap and ride along like that.  It will help cool your body core and keep you comfortable, if a little damp.

On the bum, you need to keep the circulation going.  Just sitting there and twisting that won't keep enough blood flowing to your body to keep you comfortable and avoid butt burn.  2 weeks ago I rode 1860 miles in 31 hours during an endurance event, on the stock seat.  Not the best seat, but it was what I had.  when you feel the start of some bum discomfort, lift your bum off the seat a little to get some circulation, then sit back down.  Repeat often, like every 20-30 minutes or when you think about it, feel your bum starting to be uncomfortable.

The same can be said for other body parts.  Stand up now and then, shake out your arms and legs, (one limb at a time!), occasionally and keep things loose.  This is a bit of a dance, done while you ride that all aids in keeping circulation going thru your body and helps prevent aches and pains and keeps you more alert.  Let yourself get dehydrated and your thinking slows down too, so take extra care in the heat to avoid that.

Have you noticed how stable this bike is with no hands on the bars? My experience with the Royal over the last 15 years has been a fair amount of torque steer. LOL, I can put on a pair of gloves while rolling.

Thanks for the tip guys, I am sure its going to be a blast! I am not sure where all we will be riding, there is someone else planning all of this and I am just going along for the ride.

If your not doing these roads, tell your buddy to add them to the list.  There are many many more also! Take a pass down the dragon, get your sticker hook a left at deals gap and hit 28, then move on.  There are soooooooooooo many more paved and dirt roads it will blow your mind.  Many of the roads you can ride all day and only see a handful of other vehicles.  Your not going to want to leave the area, when its time to head home.

I should have mentioned that everyone that I am going with rides Harley's. So I am sure there will be ZERO dirt/gravel roads in there plans. I do plan on venturing off by myself for a little bit though.
