new skidplate available
« on: November 28, 2011, 10:56:56 pm »
and man, did they ever not do their homework... (not very good copy editing either!)

Skid plate For Yamaha SUPER TENERE 1200
Constructed of 4mm-thick 60/61 aircraft aluminum for havy-duty protection.
Light-weight
Anodize Silver
Baseplate includes side protectors that wrap around the engine block to provide both bottom and side protection
Uses the same mouthing holes that come with the bike
Comes with all the hardware necessary for installation.
Easy installation

I presume they are saying it uses the same mounting points as the OEM plate?

Well I see a couple of issues already...oil filter partially exposed and minimal front protection.  It looks like very minimal side cover protection on the left side.  Since I see no additional mounts at the front of the engine, I wonder if the entire skid is fully supported by the sump?

Looks like a FAIL to me.

And what in the heck is that thing hanging of the side of the motor?

I think it's a Stebel horn, not mounted and hanging by the wires.

I like that is is smaller than the H&B, which is very large and heavy.  Nice looking.  I have taken some pretty big hits with the H&B and it comes off pretty easy for oil/filter changes so reckon I will not be changing.

They don't seem to want you to know where they live.  The phone area code indicates Manhattan, NYC, and the fax area code is somewhere else in NYC.  I wonder if they test their bikes in Central Park ???   ::025:: ::025::   R

To add to the confusion - the S10 looks like a rest-of-the-world bike, with silver side panels.

Good catch, 'Strom.   Also, free worldwide shipping.   I would cost at least $50 to ship that thing up here, much less Australia or Japan.    Anybody from NY able to check these guys out?    I dunno ......   R    :pol

Thanks for posting dcstrom,  good to see another option. I'm holding out to see what Jaxon comes up with next.

I wouldn't say it's a GOOD option, but yes, an option. If they are even for real. Something smells fishy...

here's some info - based in Israel (that would explain the silver panels on the bike), and with related companies in China (if made in China, that would explain the low price and worldwide shipping).

It might still be a viable option, if they'd actually put any thought into the design instead of just trying to make a quick buck.

The only thing I like about it, is the Super Tenere logo cut in. I wouldn't put it on my motor

Why can't someone make one with a removable section for the filter? I might end up modding my Sw-motech that way.
