Skene LED Break/Tail Light Install
« on: March 09, 2018, 04:31:09 pm »
I recently installed some Skene LED break/tail lights.  I have followed some friends who have these and really like how much more noticeable they make the bike.  They have versions with and without a decelerometer.  I chose the one without.

You will need to tap into the tail light, break light and ground wires.  They are located under the seat, and under this protective panel.  In order to remove this panel, you will also need to remove the seat lock mechanism.  It will also be necessary to remove the plastic tail rack in order to run the wires.

Here are the three wires you will need to tap into. The yellow is the break light circuit.  The blue is the tail light.  The black is ground.

I drilled these holes in the fender and installed grommets before running the wires.

The first Skene I received was defective in that the red and black wires simply fell out.  I emailed them on a Sunday and they replied almost immediately.  They had a new one in the mail to me on Monday.  Excellent service!

They need to be plumb for full effect, so I had to bend them slightly.

I really appreciate you documenting this install process. I still have mine from my old bike not know quite how to install them. I think I'm going to trade in my controller for their new one.

Photo with the light activated.  You can tell they are brighter than the stock tail light.  What does not show up is the "shimmer" that is produced by the modulation.
