RIP John Glenn
« on: December 08, 2016, 08:38:27 pm »
You sir, had the right stuff. A lot of people don't realize the amount of ball these early astronauts had!  I have a guy I work with that did not even know who he was. But at least he is 37 yrs old.
Ride while you can!

Huge fan and still remember doing a book report as a kid on his biography.

"If there is one thing I've learned in my years on this planet, it's that the happiest and most fulfilled people I've known are those who devoted themselves to something bigger and more profound than merely their own self interest."

This is what he did for his whole life.

RIP.

An amazing life, full of risk, then out of retirement & back in Space at 77 in a pretty tired old Shuttle. We got some great old footage of JG, here in the UK on this morning's TV news - JGs first mission & JFK congratulating him afterwards, could have been a Congressional Medal presentation, I'm not sure (the timeline was a bit confusing) This was the moment the US drew alongside the USSR in the Space Race.
