I'm new to the adventre bike side of street biking, The other day I thought it would be best to hang up the leather chaps and look into Adventure type pants. I orderd pants from Yamaha part # spb-08pnt-bk-lg They are fantastic !! They have a zip out liner [ witch I haven't tried untill next summer ] And are wind proof water proof and have protection plastic. I road 30 miles this morrning at 24 degrees F. and was very comffy. I like the looks of them too. If you have a specific brand tell me about them.

American Made AEROSTICH in Duluth, MN this is all they do is motorcycle gear and sell direct to customer. SPendy, but the best stuff you will ever buy. They don't use zip in waterproofing stuff, they adhere the Goretex to the oouter fabric which is best for breathability. You can layer underneath. I ride with the Darien Jacket and pant. I just received the Darien Lite Tan riding pant for next summer. It is a little thinner outer material with the same goretex. the customer service is #1 AWESOME!!!

While my Roadcrafter from about 13 years ago and my first Darien pants from about 7 years ago were made in USA, my last Darien AD1's were made in Viet Nam. Still, great quality and highly recommended.

Like my Aerostich & curent Acerbis gear, but have paying more attention to the new Acerbis, Klim, & Troy Lee gear that's designed to work with the Leatt Brace. Think Jonah Street helped design the Troy Lee jacket, but don't quote me on that. All are worth a look.

Yeah, I saw that the AD1 Dariens were imported, but the original Dariens are still made in Duluth. Best allweather riding pants I ever had.

I own two pairs of Olympia Motosports pants, the Airglide 2 and the Ranger 2. Good pants for the price and pretty easy to find locally.

Venture, I agree, it is easy stuff to find. But by the sound of what you have paid for all of that previous stuff, it would be cheaper to go with the STich stuff. I found out the hard way after going with Joe Rocket and Fieldsheer stuff over the years being unsatisfied and spending more money.

It is hard though, as some of the gear out there looks great!!!

Fred,
Have you tried the AD1's? I prefer them to my original Dariens. Agree with you on the Darien's in general - best I have ever had as well.

Rod,, I was interested in the AD1 modifications over the original Dariens, but was a little disappointed that Andy decided to get them from Vietnam rather than make them with his employees in Duluth. I also read some user reviews saying that the sizing wasn't correct. Were yours sized correctly per their size chart?

I have a pair of 34R that fit fine when standing, but the last time I was riding my KLR, I noticed that they barely covered the tops of my boots, so I was thinking of getting some size 34L.

The early ones had sizing problems and they were offered on their website for significant savings. A friend of mine in Golden bought a pair and he argued back and forth with them about the sizing issues. Mine were produced later on and were full price. No issue whatsoever. The added gusset in the crotch is a welcome addition, as are the extra front pockets and velcro on the existing pockets.

I have BMW Santiago pants with liners. The best pants I have ever had. I like the look, fit and feel of these way better than the more popular BMW Rally pros. For Jackets, I have a number of Olympias and Rev-it. All my stuff has had mods to collars and waistbands by Annie-GS. She does great work.

Anyone have the Aerostich Transit suit? I'm not really in the market since I'm spending all my money and probably someone else's too  on the S10, but it does sound interesting.

a question was asked about the aerostich AD1 pants. I have found them inferior to the darien pants due to the knee pads being incorrectly located. Just don't seem to fit as well. Have some Darien pants for a bunch of years - actually about finally worn OUT, but they have been great.
that said - I have been using firstgear TPG stuff for a couple of years as I was one of the first "testers" and was given a set to wear and try to wear out. Quality of build not up to stich standards, but I could buy just about two for the price of a stich (darien top and bottom). However, there new generation katmandu stuff looks great. tried them on at the Iron Butt Association national meet and found them of a better quality build than the tpg - same features, just seem to be of better materials.

That's interesting as I have found them to be just as comfortable, plus the added features of the AD1's make them better than the originals IMO.

YMMV

Chickey, I beg to differ on the price of the TPG stuff. Around here it is priced higher than the Darien jacket, and the pants are close behind on price. So i don't know what you mean about getting two of the TPG sets for one STich. Just wondering?

i got mine free - so I admit that I haven't priced them lately, and 2 fer 1 is obviously an exaggeration - but when I got mine they were at least 300 cheaper (total) than Stich. To change the subject - anyone looked KLIM gear? I saw the Adventurer stuff and other than a freekin' SHOCKING price.... great gear. Like 1300 for a jacket and 850 for pants. Ok - THAT stuff is way out of line, but their Baja and Mojave pants looked great for hot weather riding and were reasonable Like $130 or so - and their jackets (don't remember name) looked terrific, too. $300+ range.

They are definitely geared for dirt riders, but I hear that they are designing more adventure touring / road specific gear due in the spring

Take a look at www.klimusa.com for a look at their stuff. just don't look at the sticker price on the adventurer stuff unless you have a strong stomach (or wallet)
