Took a ride up a rather interesting side road........ apart from wet leaves on a single track road it was fun....... notice the incline? Going down the other side was less daunting

As I get older, I am no longer surprised at what I know, I'm surprised at how much I don't know.

We passed through Vernal on our 5,000 mile trip this summer on the hogs before I bought my S10. Here is a pic near Helper. Mine is the red Road Glide in the middle.

Home and warm after a wet last day about 350 miles. Sorry for the lack of pictures. When I ride alone I say to myself “That was cool. Think about it for a Mile, asshat you should have stopped for a picture!”

Route: Wednesday . Des Moines Iowa to St Joseph Mo. across Kansas on us 36. Hit I70 at Colby and into Colorado on day 1.

Day 2 Thursday. Rain To Limon, down to CO Springs (rain ends) Canon City to Montrose on day 2.  12,000 ft pass and 38 degrees with melting snow day 2.

Day 3 Friday. Montrose to La Sal UT for the start of one goal.  Ride the length of the devils highway, us 666 renamed 191 today. Picked it up near La Sal. Rode south to Chinle Az and Canon de Chelly National Monument

Day 4 Saturday was the good stuff.  Rode south to Springerville and US 60. 666/191 between there and near Morenci AZ And US 70 is the good stuff.

A little over 100 miles took 3 hours with speed limits of 25 and 30 mph. Signs “This road not plowed or patrolled at night or during storms.”  In 100+ miles I passed 1 truck and met maybe 5 MC and 2 cars.

About 2 hours south a welcome site.

I rate this with the snake and dragon. The dragon is what 15 miles and takes 30 min. This is better longer faster and no cops.

Ended at Morenci Az.  The largest copper mine in us.  At least 20 miles long and a mile deep. Looking across small trucks on switch backs. Then a truck right next to you. Tires 10’ tall. Driver 30’ in the air.

Day 5 Sunday Morenci down to I-10. This was somewhat like US50 in Utah. Come over a hill and see a straight road for the next 15 miles. Crank it up. No cops in site and nowhere to hide.
Highlight of the day is come over a hill at 75 and find marble size hail. That crap stings!!!  Slowed to 30 and it only lasted a minute or less. Was not till I was thru it that I realized the road was white but the Mitas snow tires did their thing!
Hit I-10 and decided enough 191. Took a left toward Texas straight across New Mexico. That was goal 2 of the trip. I have now ridden in the lower 48. Need to visit the wrecker checker or do Rolling thunder to get DC, but AZ and NM/48 was the primary CHECKMARK.

Took 10 to Van Horn then South to Marfa Texas. Sunday night after an Art/Music festival weekend.

Day 6 Monday. Down to Presidio. Before I left Marfa I talked to a couple old ladies heading north. They said I should not ride a MC Presidio to Lajunta.  Too twisty and steep. At one point she thought the car would wheelie over it was so steep. Like I said old ladies.  Nice road and interesting but not spectacular.

Made it to Sandra Elana Canon overlook where the Rio Grande cut a deep Canon between the US and Mexico.
On the way to the motel on a sharp corner two black bear cubs jumped into the road. One right at me but I headed for the front one. Grabbed brakes and he was right by my foot. Thought about venting by literally kicking his ass but just went by.

Day 7 Tuesday. Big Bend to Austin Tx and my daughters house. Almost longest day.

Day 8 Wednesday. Austin to near Springfield Mo. visit a cousin. Back to back long windy days. Needed a break.

Day 9 Thursday. 70 miles to Some friends new place at Lake of the Ozarks.

Day 10 Friday. Home.

10 Days with one short 70 miler between friends houses.

3,927 miles per the bike. 3,858 Garmin miles.

Longest day was 660 miles, I think.

Moving for 59 hours and 4 minutes.

Overall average 56 mph. (Includes stop lights and idling time)

Moving average 65 mph.

Top speed, and I have no idea when, 101.

By memory using the bike temp readout the low was 38F and the high 94.  (I adjust down by 4 degrees to match bank displays)

Had 3 rainy days and one bad hail storm.

Missed a deer by 5 feet and a black bear cub by 12 inches. Saw deer, including some very small Texas ones, black bear, bobcat, wild pigs, jack rabbits, mountain sheep and 6 foot wide long horn cattle.

The Tenere ran perfectly. No issues at all.

I have to work Monday thru Thursday then with Katie on the Indian and our Star group we do our annual Leaf Ride with around 900 miles Friday to Sunday.

Back to reality. And it sucks. But my butt likes the easy chair!

So we need to ride to your office. Realize I cannot get in. But would really complete the lower part of the country.

Of course by then I may have a snake toy hauler with a potty!  After all we are old!!!

So far, I've only been on a couple of short jaunts up into the hills in southern NH, plus riding to work. We've had enough rain over the past couple of months, plus my needing to take the cage to work due to needing to do shopping etc, that I'm still only 200 miles into the 600 mile breakin. I'm running out of good weather, if the Old Farmer's Almanac is right; they're saying we'll have our first snow by the end of the month. What I need is to find someone local to ride with, so the wife won't worry about me and I can get some miles done.

Over the long weekend, rode down to son's family east of St. Louis.  Several rides from there with him and then joined by my son in law, both on the Honda cruisers.  This is the old Chain of Rocks Rt 66 bridge over the Mississippi.  Rode lots of River/Bluff roads south and up north to Grafton's Pere Marquette State Park.  Never been on the road with so many Harley's as the River Road through Grafton.  Special thanks to fredz43 for butt testing my S10 at Rt 66 Litchfield on the way home, especially since I interrupted his dirt bike ride.  It is nice to meet forum members face to face!

Sorry Bob. Was thinking of a member who had guards at their office. Not 1600 but related.

I would actually like to see any public stuff at your office.

I rode mine around the block. First time I've ridden since July 11th...the day of my crash. I picked this 2016 up Sunday after waiting a couple of weeks for the seller to get the title from the finance company. My riding buddy rode it home for me. Still not ready for a trip yet, but I can see the light at the end of the tunnel.
