You live rural and want to NOT buy online?  Give up on that and either order Mahl OC-575 or OEM in a case quantity and carry at least one with you, if not two.  I took two filters with me when I rode to the start of the IBR in '13.  One for a pre-rally oil change in PA, the other for a post rally oil change, that ended up being in Canada on the round-a-bout way home after the rally.  They don't take up much room.   ;)

If you really want to, you can probably have a machine shop modify the stock stub, or create a remote filter system that allows you to use an auto filter.  Miatae use the same thread diameter, fwiw, 20mm x 1.5 pitch, if memory serves.  It's not a bad idea, I just don't think too many have done it so far and it hasn't been well documented on the forum yet.  So, if you go down that road, take pictures of before and after and post what you did and how it worked to the forum so others can decide if it's something they might want to do.

bump for another thing i learned today while at wally world trying to get a filter.  mobil was at least nice enough to add an "A" to the model number and cause me pause to look.  this makes the sticky list in oil forum not usable.

EDIT-  had k+n filter for free pick up but i saw many very recent oil nut leak posts from seemingly reliable sources.  ordered MAHLE OC-575 from amazon 8 bucks here friday

For what it's worth, I just bought another Mobil M1-108 filter at an O'Reilly's Auto Parts two days ago, and it still has the same concave bottom as previous models.  The filters are 2 9/16" high.

Yeah i saw that today at a O'reily.  The new unti is a 108a.  It is convex.  It is the one they carry at wally world.  O'reilly had wix filters as well for 7.50, that are still concave.

Hi,
I have successfully used a Mann MW64/1 filter. There is also a MW64 variant that looks even more like the oem filter.

MW64/1: https://catalog.mann-filter.com/EU/eng/catalog/MANN-FILTER%20Katalog%20Europa/Oil%20Filter/MW%2064~1

MW64 :

So far it has not leaked.

Was it decided if these fit under the skid plates?

I appreciate the heads up on this filter.  I added it to my filter list, and I think I'll give it a try on my next oil change.  Way better price than the Mobil M1-108 (they run about 15 bucks at O'Reilly Auto).  Might be worth it to just buy a case of them.

2.5/8" tall from gasket to top of filter, will be shorter once the rubber gasket gets crushed down.

They are the exact same height as the OEM Yamaha filter so yes they will fit under all skid plates. I have switched over to the Mahle filter and it fits great under the SW Motech skid plate. This new price at rockauto is awesome. I paid about $7 a filter with free shipping on Ebay but with rock auto's lower initial price and discount codes, they are even cheaper than ebay now. I would stock up and buy a bunch at that price!

I haven't seen a discount code from RA yet. I bought many filter and car parts from them.
