Hello from Peru!
« on: October 31, 2017, 02:07:30 pm »
Hi to all my name is Fernando from Peru. Great to be here!
I finalliy bit the bullet and convinced myself in getting a XT1200Z Super Tenere. I have a XT660Z and test road a 1200, what a great bike!
At present there is no stock, they should be available (only 2, blue and black) the first week of december.
List price is of US$ 17,990 and I could get a 2014 model one (year of manufacture 2013 - it has got the new dashboard) for about US$ 12,000 with only 14,000km (8.750 miles)
Is there any difference between the 2017 and the 2014 that would make sense to pay almost US$ 6000 more?
Thanks in advance for your help!
Saludos!

Welcome aboard!  I can't help you on the decision.  I don't have a reference.  I don't THINK there is a $6,000 difference.  Somebody knowledgeable will be here soon though.  ;)

I think, that if you don't have a dream about having a brand new S10, the amount might not be worth it..
There is almost no differencs in the mentioned years. Most will say NO difference..
But for some countries there might be some difference in the mapping, because of the EURO4.

I have no clue, about EURO4 for Peru

Hello Fernando

I guess you're saying that it's been manufactured in 2013 with the new dashboard? I might be wrong but that makes it a 2nd gen and not model one (unless someone changed the dash with a new one - don't know if retrofit is possible).
Try to see if it has cruise control buttons; the red kill switch has the start function as well; the side stand is aluminum (silver) and LED indicators, if they're all present that's a easy way of identifying a 2nd generation S10.

If it's a 2nd generation and only 14000Kms I would buy it. $6000 is a lot of money that you can use to buy a lot of stuff.

Saludos

Thanks Paletes3, according to what you are telling me it is definately a Gen 2, and totally agree, that being the same bikes with such low mileage, I should use that difference in price to farkle it!
In Peru you have both years, production and model, so you can have a bike or car with the same year of production and model eg 2014/2014 or the production year "older" than the model one 2013/2014

Welcome aboard Fernando!  I was very lucky to have the opportunity to spend 4 weeks in Lima 2 years ago for work, and was amazed at the city.  I didn't see many large bikes there, so you're choice of the ST will make you a rarity!
