not yet an owner but am looking for a Super Tenere.  Did the Tail of the Dragon for my 60th birthday. Job is winding down and ready to ride. Right now I have a Harley XR1200 and a Yamaha RZ350. The ST will kick one of them out of the garage.

Greetings from Malta and welcome to the forum. I had a Yamaha Dragstar when I bought the S10. Kept both for a little over a year but then I realized that I was not using the Dragstar at all. The S10 was the bike that satisfied my needs. So why pay insurance, road tax and what not for nothing! I sold the Dragstar!

Welcome to the forum.  Lots of good info and good people here.  Searches will find many things, but don't be shy about asking questions too.

Have you ridden a Super Ten yet?  The throttle by wire takes some getting used to.  Especially coming from carburetor bikes.  Much more sensitive throttle.  T mode has a softer throttle response, so try that first if you do a test ride.  It's a bit of a tall, heavy bike.

I understand.  I'm typically that way too.  I came from an FJR though, so modern Yamaha's are familiar to me.  I would strongly suggest you try to find a dealer that will let you do a demo ride if the weather co-operates.  This bike isn't for everyone and buyers remorse sucks.  It's significantly bigger and more technologically advanced that your other bikes.  There will be a learning curve to managing the throttle.  Especially at low speeds.  Throttle by wire takes very small inputs.

::004:: EricV is right about the touchy/twitch throttle.  I've never seen it as a negative, only a "huh, that's different".  I used "T" for about the first month, but then I switched to "S", acclimated to it....and never switched back.  As stated, smaller throttle inputs.  I drive mine daily, so my adjustment time was much shorter than a person that only rides occasionally.  If you ever rode that FJR pictured with your XR, the throttle is similar.  I, like many here, have migrated from the FJR.  I never test drove mine either, and do not have any remorse.  Favorite bike ever.  Good luck ::001::

Expand the garage. You're sixty! You no longer are required to "make sense". ;)

I have a '15 Road Glide. When I bought my Tenere in the beginning of August my RG didn't move for the rest of the summer. It is super comfy for long trips but handles like crap compared to the Tenere. I had the RG out for a short ride today for my last ride of the season after not riding it for a couple of months. It still feels like an old farm truck. I am working on getting my Tenere set up for long distance riding as I speak. My seat is gone for a custom rebuild. I have a feeling my RG will be going up for sale next summer as I am not having that much money tied up in a bike just sitting in the garage. Be prepared that once you drink the Tenere Kool Aid there will be no going back. :)

 Hi Tony
I'll echo what the others have said. The S10 is the Swiss Army knife of bikes and I love mine.
I did not test drive one but did lots of research on here. I have owned a XR1200 (damn plastic gas tank cover)
and RD/RZ 350's but came from more modern FJR,FZ 09,FJ 09 models with throttle modes,ABS,traction control etc
so adapting to the S10 was easy.
Keeping a 2nd bike totally different from the S10 is great for a change of pace and I now have a FZ-09 to hooligan
 around on.
Get a S10 you will love it (but keep the RZ350)
