How do I stop my windshield from bouncing around?
« on: September 18, 2017, 11:09:39 am »
So I noticed that my windshield bounces around a lot at higher speeds. Is there a way to keep it sturdy?

First off, welcome aboard.

If you have a Gen2 bike, a forum member is selling brackets.

However, it'd really help to know a little more - at least about the bike.
Is it a Gen1, so the brackets thread applies?
Has it been dropped and you have a broken plastic support?
Which windshield do you have? I had a thin aftermarket one which would flex regardless of using brackets if I were to buy a set.
Is it on a MadStad or other bracket?

You get the idea. The more you contribute, the more you get in return.

I have a Gen 1 and put a Madstad bracket on and then added the Madstad brace. Works great!

Then I have the same one on my bike and it doesn't seem to be an issue. Maybe it's just what each of us are used to. If the stays are firm and you are sure the supporting plastic is solid, you might consider the brackets I mentioned above.

I have a set of those brackets on my Gen2.  The brackets have made it possible to mount my Zumo and Valentine1 on the accessory bar with almost zero vibration.  They rock.  Also, I haven't had the windscreen position adjuster knobs vibrate loose on me since installing them, and it used to be a weekly task.    ::008:: ::008::

I'll give another thumbs up for Tom's brackets - they should come standard on S10!

I copied Propsoto's brackets as well. It's worth the money for sure. He'll even send you the files if you wanna get them made locally. Seems like a nice guy.

Considering that the shield/cluster is rubber mounted, I think it is supposed to move around.   Sometimes hard mounting these things can cause other problems like cracks, bulbs, ...

Apologize for not having pictures.

I have a Gen1 too and I braced the windshield holders to make it sturdier.

If u look at the side view of the windshield holder, you sort of see the 'L' shape.  Find a bar or bracket, flat that is long enough, and use some good 3M doublesided tape to mount that bar to the "L" to create a Triangle shape.

My windshield is stock and has a spoiler mounted to the top of the shield.  The extra weight and wind force can cause the bounce on the shield.  Bracing the supports have reduced the bounce to almost 0.
