My Lazy (now awesome) mod..... :-)
« on: February 13, 2018, 07:50:28 am »
This is what happens with all the winter down time and boredom sets in!

Got all the geometry figured out, a few pieces made, others on order. I think it should work, we'll see.

At the start, all you need is 2 hearts and a diamond....
Later, you want a club and a spade.

Seems like a lot of work to just avoid moving your foot from the highway peg to the regular peg and change gear!! then put it back on the highway peg!! It would not work on my bike as the forward engine mounting bolts that you are using to mount the linkage are already used for crash bar mounts and would foul with this linkage!! if you have the time go for it, but as stated, it seems a lot of work to just not move your foot!! What about the rear brake pedal on the other side?

Beauty of linked braking system  ::008::
As I get older, I am no longer surprised at what I know, I'm surprised at how much I don't know.

Well I did say my 'LAZY' mod, and that I'm bored with this winter weather, and I've made a lot of things most people wouldn't do if they can 'buy' it.
This is something I've always wanted to try and after I thought about it, found out a couple of other bikes you could do this similar mod to.

As far as the rear brake................what Dogdaze said!

It even works better than I thought it might, although I haven't rode it yet, but shifting it on the center stand
and making voorum voorum sounds, it seems to work well.
All I have to do is paint it and I have some matching engine color paint, so it should blend-in a bit more!
Even if I don't use it much, I enjoyed figuring it all out and making it.

::008::  That looks really cool! One question, is there more 'weight' when shifting as you still have the original peg and hardware connected. Also, personally I would be worried in a tip over, the highway peg may go into the engine casing, I may be wrong as I cannot see the whole picture. Good work either way.

Well the peg is a passenger peg from a Yam Road Star. It collapses, but the mount, anything is possible. It has 4 bolts holding it.
As far as weight, I thought I might feel it too, but it feels no different.
I'm more worried about the gear lever tip on a tip-over. But it shouldn't be much different than the stock one, as it seems higher.

Finished! Took it for a 100 mile ride and I must say, this is one of my top 3 mod's I've done to a bike!
Didn't know how much I would use/like it but wow, I used it 60-80% of the ride!
They are no longer hwy-way pegs cause I can use them anytime!
Just 'forward pegs' and 'rear pegs' now!
