Waterproof Tank Bags.S.W. Motech & Givi GRT 705
« on: April 29, 2017, 04:15:30 pm »
Hi I am looking for peoples experiences with water proof tank bags and two specific ones.
The first is the S.W. Motech Tankbag Drybag 130 Tarpaulin. Waterproof.
The other is the Givi GRT 705 water proof tank bag.
Has anyone used either of these and can give me some idea of how they perform and if they are as waterproof as they say.
Thanks

Hi Limey that was one of my other choices but was a bit more expensive than the ones I was asking about.
Thanks Steve

Do you really want a bag that big? I use the SW Motech Micro bag. It comes with a waterproof cover. The ring can be electrified and locked. Easy to flip off and throw in a case if necessary. Biggest benefit: Doesn't get in the way of turning/standing. Half the price of the other bags.

Went through a few bigger bags before I found this one. I love it. Holds wallet, phone, microfiber towel.

Gone through a couple of small bags and I find the bigger one to my liking, holds my camera with zoom lens, wallet and other crap and no it doesn't get in the way of turning and standing. And no need to stop to put on the silly cover that blows all over the place.

Has anyone tried the Motech Yukon 90 with the Tenere?  Looks to be a simple setup and waterproof.  Would be good to know how it works with the Tenere cockpit.

Thanks for all the info. I am like limey and intend putting a full frame DSLR and lenses in the tank bag so that's why I prefer the larger variants I initially mentioned. As yet nobody seems to be using either of them. I am not a fan of having to stop and put a rain cover on the bag so that's why I have been looking at the two I asked about.
Thanks

::003:: All good, I had tried a few larger ones (including the OEM yamaha tank bag) and found that they were just too cumbersome. Wish I had taken the advice before wasting the $$. Having the DSLR handy certainly improves the quality of the ride reports!

Defekticon you are right having the DSLR handy is a good think and the tank bag is the perfect place because it comes to hand easy and no need to get off the bike but most importantly is the location with regard to vibration. I think if I put my camera anywhere else on the bike the vibration could possibly cause some damage and with the cost of it I will do all I can to reduce any damage.
Thanks

Which Model to you have? 4A? And does it sit well on the tank hump of the S10?
Looking for a good 'one and done' tank bag. The Sandstorm is up on the list. Pricey but feature full. Especially the 'expansion' feature which still maintains the structure and doesn't 'flop' around

I’m sure mine is the 3E it has 140,000 km on it right now. Sits fine on the tank and make sure you protect the tank as mine is a mess with fine scratches. The only problem is with the Velcro coming loose on the bag. And I would buy any.

I reached out directly to Enduristan and asked them to suggest the spec for the S10.
They came back with the 4H - which has a 'flat' bottom. Assuming that they think it better to sit on the 'slope' of the tank instead on the hump and the slope.
And then confusion sets in.  ::) ::)

My bike came with a Givi tank bag and I like it a lot.  I would like to use the map pocket But any paper inside the map pocket would get wet when it rains, because of that I rarely use the map pocket. I have ridden in a LOT of rain with it and the only part that leaks is the map pocket, everything else in the bag stays perfectly dry.  It has one of those tank rings for mounting it to the bike, easy on or off I love that feature and after owning one with a tank ring would most likely never buy one without.
