Everyone is lying to you. No way your head is worth 500 bucks.
Be like this guy.

Speaks volumes when he would rather use a popcorn bucket then the helmet sitting on his headlight, maybe it smells like caramel popcorn......
As I get older, I am no longer surprised at what I know, I'm surprised at how much I don't know.

I used to keep all the old helmets on the wall above the door in the barn.  The ones with crash damage were the lowest, closest to the door.  They served as a good reminder that bad things can happen out there, try not to add another low helmet to the wall.

It's a good thing that future helmet considerations is among your most pressing concerns after having a crash.

When I totaled a wing hitting a deer my insurance limit on gear was $400 , the helmet was shot but the insurance Geico would not let me keep it, but that left me wondering why they made me keep the jacket and gloves that were also ruined.

Focus on more than the bucket and the picture says a lot. For example, long Euro style license plates on cars are the norm in Africa and the background would fit for Nigeria, which happens to use the rectangular plates in the photo. It's too damned close to the equator for dreads where you see palm trees and a brown background like that, which could also fit for somewhere in northern Africa.

My guess is that it's a motorbike taxi and his second helmet was just too beat to use or stolen. The purple helmet is for a passenger but the working man on back looks to be using a plastic bump cap from work.

While we buy $200-$700 helmets and add $100-$300 intercoms, my work-mates and I've bought those $5-ish helmets in Asia and Africa to rent motorbikes & scooters and they are close to what in the US would be considered to be a foam bicycle helmet. I can't imagine trying to live off the coins those motorbike taxi drivers make, as a helmet would cost a couple of days take-home to those drivers. We just give our nearly new helmets away when leaving.

I would never do that. I prefer the rugged adventurer look that a dual sport helmet gives.

I wonder if it has a DOT sticker.
Cheers,

Chris
