Here is an update on my bike since Yamaha replaced the wiring harness.  I got the bike back on 5-18-17.  I have done approximately 1500 miles with numerous starts.  The bike has been perfect.  Starts strongly every time with no stalling or high idle.  I have only had a few posts here because I had no answers for the problems.  I have had all the problems Ramseybella had.  I did every thing suggested on the forum.  I also replaced every sensor including the ECU.  It seems like I have a different bike.  I did not know how a 2012 Tenere was supposed to run because it was so messed up the last 3 years.  After all I have been through, my suggestion for you guys who are still having problems would be to investigate or replace the wiring harness first.  I am feeling like the bike is fixed.  I will do some more updates as I get more miles.  Here is a list off the top of my head of things I tried over the last 3 years so the forum members do not have to spend a lot of time searching.  Moved the stator wires, replaced all sensors, replaced the throttle bodies, replaced the ECU, used engine Med for a couple thousand miles, did the CO adjustment, balanced the throttle bodies, and valve adjustment.  I was ready to part out the dang thing because it was dangerous to ride and I knew nobody wanted it running poorly, including the dealer.  I was in the same mood as Ramseybella to never buy a Yamaha again.  For now I am riding happily.  I hope it continues.  Another update coming in the future.

Were all the wiring harnesses replaced? Is someone looking at the old harness/harnesses to see where it failed?

Just the main wiring harness was replaced.  The sub harnesses are original to the bike.  According to the rep, the harnesses are sent to Japan to be evaluated.  He said the engineers cannot find anything wrong with them.  I have not spoken to the rep lately to see if he has any information about my harness.  I would doubt he would hear.  I will give him a call and ask if he knows anything more.  I personally do not believe the engineers are not finding a problem.  I am leaning more towards the idea that Yamaha does not want to admit a problem.  Here are some observations since the replacement.  When I used to turn on the ignition it seemed the initialization sequence sounded weak, now it is strong.  The bike shifts much better so I think the rpm was dropping off at higher gears so the transmission gears were mismatched speed wise.  The power is predicable, before I never knew what it was going to do.  The cold start fast idle happens every time.  In the past it was random which is why one of the first things I replaced was the engine temp sensor.  Originally the harness looked like an explosion in a spaghetti factory, now it looks way more organized like a factory design should.  I hope this info helps all those who are still having problems.

If no one from 14 on up has not had this issue Yamaha knows the problem existed and most likely what causes it.. ::024:: ::007::

My guess is a manufacturing defect on certain batches.  Hope they found the root cause of the defect and had it fixed.  Lots of wire crimping in the wire harness, and things can go wrong with crimping such as tool wear, or something went out of alignment.

I have a 2013 and have been having this issue and have tried all the fixes on this site. I finally got desperate and decided to turn it over to my local Yamaha shop. They performed several checks and stated that the pressure sensor was bad and replaced. I still had the issue and it only seemed worse. I took it back and after discussing with Yamaha they suggested a Valve adjustment check. This was performed and was in spec. The shop had been in discussion with Yamaha the whole time troubleshooting the issue. Yamaha then offered to replace the wiring harness at no charge even though I have not been under warranty for several years. I have not had the issue after one week of riding and have my fingers crossed. I have to think that Yamaha would not have replaced my harness at no charge if there was not a known issue. I will update this thread in a few weeks with any updates,

They definitely changed the bike for Gen2, as discussed in the Hard Start thread. See post 761 here:

Just wondering if this only affects US spec bikes? The wire harness maybe different from other regions. CO access method, no immobilizer...are different.

The model went from Gen1 to Gen2 all over the world and the folks at North American corporate aren't sure which change or combination of changes made the problem go away. So yes, the change would affect non-US bikes.

I think the more pertinent question for you in your country is whether your Gen1 bikes had the same issues that the North American bikes did? Since you may not have had our EPA tuning set-up, were you spared the problem in the first place?

I am betting on silence by Yamaha and keep their fingers crossed..
Bad business no matter how you look at it. I have no one in my state to depend on to defend me and replace my harness my YES ran out this year.
Let us know how the new harness works out as so far your thew only one besides another that had it replaced and no Gremlins.

The cases of high idle or irratic behaviour that I hear off in Malaysia n Singapore were corroded coil issues. A couple of cases. No wire harness cases that I know of. We do have a mix of Japan, Aussie, US, UK (the majority), European specs in Malaysia while Singapore bikes r....I really don't know.

I have ridden about 600 miles since my last post. The bike has had zero issues. The wiring harness replacement did the trick. The harness that was replaced was part number 23P-82590-10-00. I am so stoked that my bike is finally fun to ride and reliable.  ::015::

Just an update since my last post.  I now have a little over 2500 miles since Yamaha replaced my wiring harness.  The bike has been perfect.  Absolutely no issues.  I will echo 911guy and say I am very happy to be able to ride it without worry.

Didn't work at all for me..
86 Octane has been doing perfect until................................
Today dry as a bone good morning weather went to Santa Fe 43 miles one way road great get into town and then the 3k rpm acts up then the stall BS stopped at a store for about 45 minutes WOT start kept stroking the throttle to keep it running. Took off coasted at 3k rpm got to a light turned it off went back to normal all the way home.
Yes solution number 125 has failed today who knows what tomorrow will bring? ::025:: ::017::
It is truly the only thing I hate to death about this bike.. Again Yamaha should be concerned, this will be my last Yam. >:(
If my bike was doing that. It would be my last one too.
