Old new from up there
« on: January 06, 2018, 05:04:44 pm »
The bike i'm talking about .

The bike : The Big Blue , 2012 bought new , now has 100 000 kms ( not as much as i would have liked ) , mostly ridden 50/50 on/off gravel , forest road , atv trails and tarmac . Quite a few scratches and a few dents here and there , like the owner .
The rider : In my sixties ( or is that the sexties?)  , been riding since early '70's , mostly on road , but had a trial bike and did competitions and loved it (actually that was the one bike i kept the longest and enjoyed the most ) . Photography brought me back in the woods , so i traded my ST1300 for the Big Blue . With proper tires , that beast is a monster of torque , able to climb where some of my fellow riders have trouble following with their 800's . Also a very capable bike in crossing streams ; a friend said of the S10 that the engineers who conceived it must have worked as a submarine engineer before . Not afraid of the deep stream crossing , but of course you have to be careful with slippery rocks . Always better to walk the crossing before .
I'll be doing some mods to the Big Blue this winter . A higher seat for one , too bad Seat Concept does not offer it anymore . I'll probably check it out with an upholsterer , damn loooong legs . But it helps to dab a foot once in a while .
The bike will maybe lean on the left side , due to extra plate and screws in my left ankle . A mistake i made last summer , and still paying physically for it . (guess i'll put more preload on that side of the fork , hahaha )
Am looking to different rides next summer , The Rock (Newfoundland) , is calling me , been studying it very much .

I'll leave you wiyh a pic the Big Blue as i found it one night returning home after work . Have a great 2018 , lots of health and love but mostly , burn some rubber .
