2015 vs 2017 comparison please?
« on: December 05, 2017, 11:08:14 am »
I’m new to this great S10 forum and looking to purchase an S10 to replace my 2008 vstrom 650. Needing some advice / information.

I’ve located a used 2015 S10 (not ES) with approx 8.5k miles that appears to be in excellent condition and already fitted out. Hoping some of you experienced S10 owners could please identify any differences between the 2015 and 2017 models (anything new on the 2017 that I might wish I had?). Plus I’d like your advice regarding any S10 aspects that need special attention when evaluating a used one. Also the bike has the extended Yamaha Warranty (good to 2020). Any special requirements / steps required to transfer the extended warranty to a new owner?

Thanks

The big thing is non ES.  If you are cool with that, than it's just a color thing.  As I understand it. The 15 should save you a lot of money.

Like above, unless you want to get the ES version, for the U.S. the only difference is the paint color.

More people will chime in with more detail, but at that mileage, not easy to hurt it. I would look at if it has been taken care of by the book. At that mileage, probably the biggest concern would be the spokes (they do like to loosen up). If it looks good, rides good, and has been taken care of by the book, it just should come down to $$. At 8.5K miles is just starting to break in.

I don't think that the USA model have any difference from 2015 to 2017.
Maybe a California model (like European models), have some change in the mapping, because of demands for pollution.

Need to compare apples to apples. Both the 2015 and 2017 models are available with or without the ES. No major changes (other than graphics and colors) since the 2014 (2nd Gen) model, Gen 1 being 2013 and older.

Get a new Vstrom, if you like them, says the guy who moved here from there.

Test ride the Tenere before you buy. This a "must do".

Once you have it take it to a dealer for a YES inspection. They transfer it to you.  Some cost but not sure what.

I have both in the garage right now. The 15 has a flat black front fender. The 17 has a painted fender.  Outside of that I find no other difference.

Good luck with the test ride and possible purchase. I think it cost $25 for the dealer to transfer the YES extended warranty from the previous owner to me.
